October 15 – Rhinebeck – NYS&W

Saturday morning: after six months of planning (thank you again Organizer!) and saving, it is here!
Coffee – check! Purse / bag / money / camera – check! We’re off. We park the Dodge Minivan …
and buy our two-day tickets. Ok, we’re ready – but it is too early — they won’t let us in yet, so we wait patiently inside the van. At just a tad before 0900, we head for the gate (again) and are greeted by several of our peers -
- the excitement in the air is almost tangible! And, check out that sky … [insert sigh and smile]
There are bunnies, goats, sheep and lots more animals to see …

You can click on the Flickr photos in the right hand margin to see all the photos (or not)!
Roanoke-lady and I wandered in one direction and the Organizer and the DJ wandered off in another – we met up again to have some lunch and I watched them head back to the trenches!
I sat a while people watching (as my grandmother so loved to do at the Mall) and made a few phone calls. When I was done phoning, I headed up the same hill to rendezvous with the others – they were wondering the buildings holding the sheep, goats, bunnies, and other farm creatures who were brought along.
This fella we named Romeo because he loved to be petted and crooned to (spoiled?)….
After some more wandering, we decided that dessert was in order… so we headed for something apple:
My cohorts ordered the apple crisp a la mode and I got the apple pie (also a la mode)… I think theirs was better than mine or so it seemed from the yummy noises I heard.
Now it’s about 1:30 and the predicted weather looked like it was coming on quickly! Our feet were dragging so we decided to head back to beautiful downtown Rhinebeck to pick up some yarn one the rest of the group had seen Friday (yes, with all that yarn we saw and touched and yearned for, we all bought at least one skein in town).
The remainder of the day was taken up with a great deal of oohing and ahhing over our purchases and some recreational knitting. We ordered delivery for dinner and two hours later dinner arrived… we each at about half of our dinners, as delivered, and saved the rest for another time.

So. Was it worth the trip? Did it live up to the hype? That’s what I want to know…
